The upcoming MBC drama Fifty Percent has officially kicked off production with its script reading session.
The cast lineup includes Shin Ha-kyun, Oh Jung-se, Heo Sung-tae, and Kim Shin-rok, all gathering to bring the project to life.
Fifty Percent is a comic action series. It follows three seemingly ordinary men with hidden pasts who are exiled to a remote island after "that incident," leading to unpredictable events.
Director Han Dong-hwa attended the reading and shared his hopes for a smooth production, encouraging the cast to deliver strong performances on set.
Shin Ha-kyun takes on the role of Jung Ho-myung, a National Intelligence Service agent on standby for 10 years who also works as a restaurant chef. He departs from his usual serious image to embrace a more comedic character.
Oh Jung-se plays Bong Je-soon, a former North Korean special operative who lost his memory a decade ago. Once a human weapon, he now struggles with everyday life, showcasing a dual-layered performance.
Heo Sung-tae transforms into Kang Beom-ryong, the second-in-command of the Hwasan faction, who infiltrates the island seeking revenge. He presents a complete shift from his previous intense roles.
The actors expressed strong confidence in the project. Shin Ha-kyun described it as "a fresh and entertaining drama," while Oh Jung-se said he plans to "fully enjoy the process." Heo Sung-tae added that working alongside the veteran actors is an honor.
The drama also features a strong supporting cast, including Kim Shin-rok, Lee Hak-joo, Han Ji-eun, Hyun Bong-sik, Kim Sang-ho, and Kim Sang-kyung.
Fifty Percent will follow The 21st Century Grand Prince's Wife and is set to premiere on May 22.
