The Korean horror film Salmokji has crossed the 1 million mark, setting the fastest pace for a domestic horror title since 2019.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, the film reached a total of 1,018,115 viewers as of the morning of April 17. It achieved the milestone on its 10th day of release while holding the No.1 spot at the box office for nine consecutive days.

Among horror films, its performance stands out. It is the quickest to surpass 1 million admissions since Metamorphosis.

Inspired by a real-life location known among horror enthusiasts, the film follows a production team that encounters terrifying events while revisiting the site for a road-view shoot. Its water ghost concept has been praised for its originality, along with director Lee Sang-min's intense and distinctive visual style.

The cast, including Kim Hye-yoon, Lee Jong-won, Jang Da-ah, Yoon Jae-chan, and Kim Jun-han, has also drawn attention for strong performances.

The film has sparked a trend among Gen Z audiences, with viewers visiting the real-life "Salmokji" site after watching the movie. Reports indicate that 180 to 200 cars gather at the location nightly, further fueling buzz.

Made on a production budget of approximately 30억 원, the film already broke even at 800,000 viewers within its first seven days, highlighting its strong cost efficiency.

Distributor Showbox continues its winning streak with a third consecutive box office hit following If We Were and The King Who Lives.

Meanwhile, The King Who Lives ranks No.2 at the box office with a cumulative audience of 16.48 million, while the foreign film Project Hail Mary holds the No.3 spot with 2.12 million viewers.
