[Dispatch=Yuha Nel Reporter] Director Park Chan-wook returns to classic westerns.
U.S. media outlet 'Deadline' revealed on the 25th (Korean time) the cast list for director Park Chan-wook's next project, 'The Brigands of Rattlecreek'.
A star-studded lineup has been completed. The list includes Hollywood actors Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, and Tang Wei.
The film is based on the screenplay 'Born Tomahawk' by S. Craig Zahler. The script was previously named on Hollywood's 'Blacklist,' a roster of the most outstanding unproduced screenplays.
The film tells the story of a sheriff and a doctor seeking revenge against a gang of bandits who plunder a small town. Themes distinctive to director Park Chan-wook, such as revenge and retribution, are expected to combine with the western genre.
Director Park Chan-wook has been pushing to bring this project to film for approximately 10 years. Recently, he directly participated in script revisions. He will serve as producer alongside producer Bradley Fisher.
'Deadline' evaluated it as a "rare combination that has A-list actors, a renowned director, and genre appeal all together." The production budget is known to exceed $60 million (approximately 88.6 billion won in Korean currency).
Meanwhile, director Park Chan-wook will serve as jury president of the 79th Cannes Film Festival held next month.
