"'故Kim Sumi to Lee Hyo-choon'…'Dear Mom' Side, Appearance Fees Unpaid"

[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myeong-ju] While the late Kim Sumi suffered unpaid appearance fees from a musical, it has been belatedly revealed that Lee Hyo-chun also failed to receive her appearance fee.

The Korean Entertainment Management Association's (hereafter KEMA) Sanctions and Ethics Committee (hereafter the Committee) issued a second statement with the Korean Actors Labor Union (hereafter KALU) on the 27th.

The matter of unpaid appearance fees for the musical 'My Mother-in-law's House' was brought up once again. The production company 'Rewrite United' has continued to remain silent despite requests for correction.

The unpaid appearance fee that the deceased should have received from 'Rewrite United' is approximately 160 million won. Nearly two years have passed since the payment deadline, but she has yet to receive it.

There was another victim. Lee Hyo-chun, who was double-cast with Kim Sumi. She made her musical debut through this production. However, she has not received her appearance fee, which amounts to tens of millions of won.

The KEMA Committee explained, "Lee Hyo-chun proceeded with her appearance after trusting the producer of 'My Mother-in-law's House,' but suffered the damage of not receiving a single penny of her full appearance fee."

The Committee added, "Absurd damage such as prolonged unpaid appearance fees for the deceased and a veteran actress has continued. We express our regret once again."

Given the severity of the damage to the actors, the Committee will handle the unpaid appearance fees for both Kim Sumi and Lee Hyo-chun in a consolidated manner. It will also address allegations of wage arrears for the production company's staff.

The Committee will even lead industry exclusion. If unpaid appearance fees continue, the production company will be designated as a 'disreputable production company.' Member companies will be notified of non-cooperation in related performance casting.

The Committee and KALU stated, "We will hold the production company accountable for the violation of Kim Sumi and Lee Hyo-chun's rights until the end," and warned, "We will strengthen related measures until the matter is completely resolved."

They added, "This is a serious matter for eradicating the practice of unpaid appearance fees. We apply a zero-tolerance principle. Similar cases will be addressed by the same standard."

Meanwhile, Kim Sumi did not receive her appearance fee from the musical 'My Mother-in-law's House' that was performed in 2023. The unpaid amount that the production company 'Suki Company' is obligated to pay is 210 million won.
