[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myeong-ju] Actors Lee Jae-wook and Shin Ye-eun meet through a medical romance.
ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama "Doctor Thumboy" (screenplay by Kim Ji-soo, directed by Lee Myeong-woo) unveiled its casting lineup on the 28th. Lee Jae-wook, Shin Ye-eun, Hong Mingi, Lee Soo-kyung, and Kim Yun-woo will appear in the series.
"Doctor Thumboy" is based on the webtoon "Survive as a Doctor." It tells the story of a public health doctor who is dispatched to a remote island called "Pyeondongdo" and a nurse with many secrets learning to save lives and love.
The production team recently held a script reading. Lee Jae-wook plays Do Ji-ui, a public health doctor dispatched to Pyeondongdo. He is a character who avoided the island due to sea trauma but undergoes change.
His delicate emotional lines stood out. He moved through diverse portrayals. He convincingly depicted the character's isolated inner world, filled with wariness, through to his growth and transformation after meeting Yuk Ha-ri.
Shin Ye-eun took on the role of Yuk Ha-ri, a nurse from a university hospital. Ha-ri is a character who cannot pass by someone in need. She returned to Pyeondongdo carrying secrets unknown to others.
She unfolded Ha-ri's complex emotions multidimensionally. Her performance seemed immersed in Ha-ri, who becomes entangled with the somewhat precarious Ji-ui and faces life's dilemmas.
Beyond this, Hong Mingi plays the role of elite public health doctor Hyun Chi-yeon. Lee Soo-kyung plays Eom Jung-sun, a native nurse of Pyeondongdo, and Kim Yun-woo worked as Yong Joo-cheon, an oriental medicine public health doctor.
The production team introduced "'Doctor Thumboy' is a story of people who meet on an isolated island healing their wounds through one another while growing as true medical professionals and as individuals."
They asked for much interest and support from viewers. "The warm chemistry of young actors' friendship and love will provide pleasant and warm healing," they said.
Meanwhile, "Doctor Thumboy" will air on ENA at 10 p.m. on June 1st. It will also be available on KT Genie TV and Disney+.
