[Dispatch=Lee Myung-ju] SM Entertainment (hereinafter SM) won a civil lawsuit against the operator of 'Taldeok Suyongso'.
The 14th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court ruled on the 22nd that in the damages claim lawsuit SM filed against 'Taldeok Suyongso', "a total of 1.7 billion won must be paid."
This is an amount that includes payments to the affiliated company and affiliated artists (aespa, EXO, Red Velvet). The artists must receive 1.3 billion won, and the company must receive 300 million won.
The court acknowledged the liability for damages of 'Taldeok Suyongso'. The videos posted on the channel had a negative impact on public perception regarding aespa, EXO, and Red Velvet.
The company was also deemed to have suffered damages. The court ruled that "artists' images and external reputation are core assets of the company" and "caused substantial disruption to business promotion and operations."
'Taldeok Suyongso' previously lost damages lawsuits filed by IVE's Wonyoung, BTS's V and Jungkook, and others. The court issued judgments ordering payment of damages in the tens of millions of won.
The criminal complaint case has also been finalized. The Supreme Court upheld the original ruling in January against 'Taldeok Suyongso', which was accused of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act and other charges. It ordered two years imprisonment with three years probation and additional penalties of 211.42 million won.
'Taldeok Suyongso' is an infamous cyber wrecker. From October 2021 to June 2023, the channel spread rumors about celebrities.
