[Dispatch=Reporter Lee A-Jin] Singer G-Dragon apologized for wearing a racially discriminatory outfit.
Galaxy Corporation stated on the 4th through an official position that "at the Macau 'K Spark' event, the artist's outfit included text that was inappropriate in social and cultural context. We sincerely apologize for this."
The company continued, "Going forward, we will make efforts so that diverse cultural backgrounds and values can be respected in all activities related to the artist," and promised "we will more carefully examine and improve our overall internal review and verification procedures."
G-Dragon took the stage at the 'K Spark in Macau' held on the 2nd at an outdoor performance venue in Macau. He presented an outfit pairing jeans with a white crop jacket and a sleeveless t-shirt.
The issue arose from the Dutch text written on the t-shirt he wore. The outfit bore the phrase 'RONNY, EEN GEILE NEGER__ JONGEN'.
Translated literally, the phrase means "Ronny, obscene Black child." This goes beyond excessively sexualizing a particular race, containing serious racist implications.
'Neger' is considered a derogatory expression for Black people not only in Dutch society but also in English-speaking regions. It is a word avoided not only in official settings but also in everyday speech. Following the performance, criticism poured in from global fans.
Meanwhile, G-Dragon will hold his world tour 'Wevermensch' at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, Philippines on the 17th.
