[Dispatch=Lee Myeong-ju Reporter] Director Yeon Sang-ho's new film 'Colony' is heading to audiences around the world.
Distributor Showbox announced on the 6th that "'Colony' has been pre-sold to 124 countries overseas ahead of its official invitation to the 79th Cannes Film Festival and its domestic release."
'Colony' will have a global release starting with its domestic opening on the 21st. It will be available in Taiwan and Malaysia on the 22nd, France, Singapore, and the Philippines on the 27th.
On the 11th of next month, it will open in Australia and New Zealand, and on August 28th on North American screens. Next year, it is scheduled to be presented to overseas audiences through a Japan release.
North American distributor 'Wellgo' said, "We chose 'Colony' because director Yeon Sang-ho has demonstrated his capability to direct highly accomplished mainstream films."
Taiwan distributor 'Movie Cloud' also said, "It is clear that 'Colony' is taking a new approach that the existing zombie genre has not attempted."
They continued, "It was very interesting how the infected are depicted not simply as a confused zombie horde, but as a 'Colony' with evolving intelligence."
German distributor 'Plaion Pictures' evaluated, "Director Yeon Sang-ho has recreated a subgenre of film with his unique zombie trilogy."
They added, "He has reached the pinnacle with this work," saying "He has completed another masterpiece that will be a new standard for years to come."
Meanwhile, 'Colony' tells the story of isolated survivors in a sealed building facing infected who evolve in unpredictable forms.
