[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-ju] Eunseok of RIIZE has apologized for an expression that sparked racial discrimination controversy.
Eunseok posted a lengthy apology on fan communication platform 'Bubble' on the 6th. He acknowledged that he "used an inappropriate expression while sharing a childhood photo."
He continued, "I am sorry to those who felt uncomfortable due to the inappropriate word choice," and added, "Although I immediately deleted it after recognizing the mistake, I feel heavy-hearted."
He pledged not to repeat the same mistake. He said, "I will think and act more carefully. I sincerely apologize," bowing his head once more.
The problematic remarks came on the 5th. Eunseok shared childhood photos on Children's Day. In the process, he used the expression '깜둥이 Eunseok.'
The message was deleted shortly after being sent. However, controversy continued, particularly among overseas fans. Criticism arose pointing out that it was a derogatory expression toward a specific race.
Meanwhile, RIIZE, which Eunseok belongs to, will make a comeback with a new mini album on the 15th of next month.
