[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-ju] BTS will meet with Mexico's president ahead of their world tour concert.
U.S. Billboard reported on the 6th (Korean time) that "Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has invited BTS to the National Palace, the presidential residence."
President Sheinbaum announced the invitation of BTS at a regular press conference that day. The plan is to open the presidential office balcony so members can greet fans.
This meeting was arranged ahead of BTS's Mexico City concert as part of their world tour "ARIRANG." Members were invited on the 6th, the day before the first concert.
President Sheinbaum also expressed welcome for the concert in January. When the Mexico City concert was confirmed, she referred to it as a "historic moment."
And for good reason — this tour will have a significant impact on the local economy. According to the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce, it is projected to generate $107.5 million (approximately 155.7 billion won) in economic effect.
The keen interest in BTS is also supported by data. Based on Spotify's latest count, Mexico is the 5th largest market globally for K-pop listening.
Among these, BTS was named the artist most streamed by local listeners. Eight of the top 10 albums in the count are BTS works.
The regular fourth album "Map of the Soul: 7" is the most-played K-pop album in Mexico. The English single "Dynamite" is ranked No. 1 most-streamed song in Mexico.
Meanwhile, BTS will take the stage at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City on the 7th and 9th-10th.
