[Dispatch=Lee Myeong-joo Reporter] As director Na Hong-jin's new film 'Hope' makes its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, additional information has been revealed.
The Cannes Film Festival released updated information on May 7 (Korean time) regarding the 79th Cannes International Film Festival competition section entry on its official website. The synopsis and credits were made public.
The film hints at an intriguing narrative. The synopsis features an isolated rural village. Beomseok (played by Hwang Jeong-min) and Seonggi (played by Jo In-sung) struggle in a tense situation.
There was also a significant description. It states, "An act that begins in ignorance sows the seeds of catastrophe," and introduces the film as depicting how "human conflict spreads to tragedy on a cosmic scale."
'Hope' has a running time of 160 minutes, screening for 2 hours and 40 minutes. This allots somewhat longer duration compared to his previous works. 'The Chaser' was 123 minutes, while 'The Yellow Sea' and 'The Wailing' were 156 minutes each.
Compared to other works nominated for the Palme d'Or, the screening time is on the longer side. 'The Sheep in the Box' is 126 minutes, 'Coward' is 120 minutes, and 'Paper Tiger' is 115 minutes.
The credits also fuel anticipation. Hong Kyung-pyo, the cinematographer who collaborated on 'The Wailing,' is credited. American composer Michael Abels handled the music.
Cast information was also revealed. In addition to previously announced roles, Michael Fassbender plays Ma'veyyo and Alicia Vikander plays J'aur.
Meanwhile, 'Hope' will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, which opens on May 12.
