[Dispatch=Park Hye-jin] BTS opened the gates of Mexico’s National Palace. They turned Zócalo Square into a vast sea of purple, becoming the central figures of an unprecedented “K-pop welcome ceremony” in the country’s history.
On the morning of the 7th, BTS visited the National Palace in Mexico City. They met with Claudia Sheinbaum and held a meeting for about 40 minutes. President Sheinbaum personally delivered a message of welcome.
Even before their concert, BTS transformed Mexico into a festival atmosphere. Fans and citizens filled Zócalo Square, with more than 50,000 people gathering to create a spectacular scene.

Tens of thousands of people sang along to BTS’s new songs. Some fans were moved to tears, while others embraced one another. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, spraying water to cool down the heated crowd.
The presidential balcony was also opened to the public that day. As BTS stepped onto the balcony, the venue erupted in cheers. The members greeted fans in Spanish, saying they had missed Mexico.
President Sheinbaum said, “We are delighted to welcome BTS, one of the most beloved groups among Mexican youth,” adding, “Their music and values connect Mexico and the Republic of Korea.”

She continued, “It is deeply rewarding to offer such a joyful moment to our citizens,” and praised the group, saying, “BTS delivers positive messages that promote a culture of peace and inclusivity through their music.”
Mexico’s interest in BTS had already been proven. According to Spotify, BTS is the most-streamed K-pop artist among local fans. Map of the Soul: 7 was also named the most-streamed K-pop album in the country.

Their concerts are also expected to generate significant economic impact. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimated an effect of approximately $107.5 million (about 155.7 billion won).
Meanwhile, BTS will take the stage at Estadio GNP Seguros on the 7th and from the 9th to the 10th. All three shows have sold out.
President Sheinbaum previously revealed that in January she had sent a letter to Lee Jae-myung requesting additional performances, noting that “more than one million people were unable to secure tickets.”
