[Dispatch=Lee Myeong-ju] Actor Ryu Seung-ryong received the Grand Prize trophy at the Baeksang Arts Awards once again.
The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards took place on the 8th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Ryu Seung-ryong won the Grand Prize in the broadcast division for JTBC's "The Story of Manager Kim at a Major Corporation Living in a Seoul House."
With this, he has rewritten the record of the "Baeksang." He is the first recipient to sweep the Grand Prize in both film and broadcast divisions. Ryu Seung-ryong won the Grand Prize at the 49th ceremony in 2013 for "Room No. 7."
Thirteen years ago and now, he played a father. Through the character Naksu, who has an intellectual disability but sincere feelings toward his daughter, and a middle-aged family man whose life he portrayed realistically, he delivered emotion.
His candid remarks were also a highlight of the awards ceremony that day. When Ryu Hae-jin, who crossed difficult times together with him, won the Grand Prize in the film division for "The Man Living with the King," the two recalled their past.
"I remember Ryu Hae-jin and me putting up posters at Lamamama Theater in New York 30 years ago, and working part-time at a bidet factory in Jochiwon. It's surreal that the two of us unexpectedly received the Grand Prize."
He also reflected on the meaning of the work. "The Story of Manager Kim at a Major Corporation Living in a Seoul House" dealt with the somewhat heavy subject of a family head's fall. It drew a journey of finding the "real me" and left a lingering impression.
Ryu Seung-ryong said, "Naksu—the name itself means 'falling water'"—"I thought everything would end, but it becomes a stream, becomes a river, and flows to the sea. It's thanks to my wife's warm words."
He continued, "Saving someone is not something grand. It seems to be a single word of sincerity," and added, "I think empathy, forgiveness, and courage can become gifts to each other."
Above all, he did not forget to express gratitude to viewers. Ryu Seung-ryong said, "I sincerely thank you all for not turning away from the journey of failure and responding warmly and delicately."
"Seung-ryong, you've done well. And to all the Naksus across the country, be happy."
Meanwhile, Ryu Seung-ryong has been cast in the new Disney+ series "The Miracle of Namiya General Store." He will also appear in "Moving 2."
