[Dispatch=Lee Myung-ju Reporter] The film 'Salmokji' (Director Lee Sang-min) has set a new milestone in Korean horror. It surpassed 3 million viewers.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated movie ticket system, 'Salmokji' drew 147,323 viewers last weekend (8-10). The cumulative audience count is 3.022 million.
It surpassed 3 million viewers approximately one month after release. The gap with 'Janghwa, Hongryeon' (3.14 million), the highest-grossing horror film of all time, has narrowed to just 1.2 million.
Director Lee Sang-min said, "3 million viewers is a number I never could have imagined," and added, "Because it was such an unrealistic figure, I am still just amazed," expressing gratitude to audiences.
He continued, "Horror is completed thanks to audiences who experience it together in theaters," and added, "I am grateful to everyone who completed the team 'Salmokji' and loved it."
Meanwhile, 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' took the number one spot at the weekend box office with 190,000 viewers. 'Super Mario Galaxy' (180,000 viewers) followed.
