[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo Reporter] Singer-songwriter DeVita has been selected as an artist highlighted by Melon.
Melon announced on the 11th, "DeVita was selected as the artist of the month for May in 'Track Zero.'" An interview commemorating the release of the regular first album "The Tree Is Burning" was also made public.
DeVita is an artist who has built an independent musical world in the Korean indie scene. The artist has presented diverse genres, ranging across R&B, pop, and baroque sound.
A new album was released in March. It is "The Tree Is Burning." DeVita explained of this album, "I sublimated an extremely personal narrative into music."
Episodes actually experienced were incorporated into the new songs. The artist went through depersonalization and panic disorder, severe burnout symptoms. Light was found with difficulty in darkness.
DeVita recalled, "I was experiencing a certain sensibility first, and as I followed it, music came out," and added, "The process of experiencing that sensibility itself became the album."
The album is designed in a three-stage composition of "sin, meeting with God, and enlightenment." The first track represents God's wrath, the sixth track represents God's message, and the final track represents God's mercy.
"Track Zero" stated the reason for selection: "A personal narrative was shaped with the universal language of mythology and classics. It made listeners feel it as their own story."
DeVita's own profound perspective is also evident. The artist added, "I wanted to add a baroque touch within a familiar tonal system to provide both familiarity and novelty."
Religious symbolism and visual worldview are key points of the album. The tricycle in "Tricycle" symbolizes the Trinity, and the apple tree in the Garden of Eden means blessed sin.
Regarding presenting such a worldview, DeVita added, "I felt it was important to construct a worldview so that those without religion and religious people alike can understand it easily."
Regarding the use of mythological metaphors such as Icarus and Judas, the artist said, "When I cannot understand myself, I express it through figures in myths or fairy tales."
Meanwhile, Melon's "Track Zero" is an indie music activation project. It announces the artist of the month and recommended new songs of the month each month.
