BTS, Mexico tour… "Trying to buy tickets, 1 million people rushed in"

[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-ju] BTS painted Mexico in purple. Crowds of fans filled the area surrounding the venue.

BTS held concerts on May 8th and 10-11th (Korea time) at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City as part of their world tour 'ARIRANG'.

This performance was a complete lineup concert for the first time in approximately 10 years and 10 months since July 2015. The group met with approximately 150,000 audience members over three days. Tickets sold out immediately after opening.

BTS delivered solid live performances and seamless group choreography. ARMY (the fandom name) in Mexico sang along precisely to the Korean lyrics and showed explosive enthusiasm.

The "Airplane pt.2" stage was particularly the highlight of this tour. Members selected this song, which contains lyrics about Mexico City, moving the audience to tears.

Mexican culture was also woven throughout the performance. Dancers wearing lucha libre masks, the traditional form of professional wrestling, appeared on the "Aliens" stage.

At the end of the concert, BTS expressed emotion, saying, "You were truly the best. What more can we say?" They also promised, "We will definitely return to Mexico."

The area outside the venue was equally heated. Mexico's fire department estimated that approximately 35,000 people surrounded the stadium during the 2nd and 3rd day concerts alone. Surrounding roads were also controlled.

The LA Times wrote, "It is uncommon for a boy band to emerge as an issue of international diplomatic interest." The outlet also reported that over one million fans attempted to purchase tickets.

'BTSnomics' also drew attention. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce projected that the tour would generate approximately $107.5 million (approximately 155.7 billion won) in economic impact.

Meanwhile, BTS will head to Stanford Stadium on the 16th-17th and 19th. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will run special bus routes for the concerts.
