According to Flixpatrol, the SBS Friday-Saturday drama "A Wonderful New World" (screenplay by Kang Hyun Joo, directed by Han Tae Seop) ranked first globally in the Netflix non-English TV show category as of the 10th.
It swept country-by-country charts. It topped the "Top Ten" chart in 24 countries including South Korea, Brazil, and Taiwan. It entered the "Top Ten" in 84 countries and regions worldwide, including the United States, Spain, and Japan.
"A Wonderful New World" is a romantic comedy. It depicts a war-like love story between Shin Seo Ri (played by Lim Ji Yeon), a cunning woman from Joseon who crash-landed in 21st century South Korea, and Cha Se Gae (played by Hur Nam Jun), a villainous tycoon.
Episodes 1 and 2 aired on the 9th and 10th. The story of Shin Seo Ri adapting to modern times with Joseon-era attire and speech patterns was broadcast. The first meeting between Shin Seo Ri and Cha Se Gae and their past-life connection were also revealed.
Lim Ji Yeon perfectly handled everything from Shin Seo Ri's extraordinary behavior to her refreshing lines. In particular, the scene where Shin Seo Ri shouted and created the "Jang Hee Bin possession meme" drew attention.
The relationship between Shin Seo Ri and Cha Se Gae was also a viewing point. The villainous tycoon Cha Se Gae was rendered helpless by Shin Seo Ri's confident outbursts. His wavering manner against her commanding tone drew laughter from viewers.
Viewership ratings also showed an upward trend. Based on Nielsen Korea, episode 1 recorded a nationwide average rating of 4.1%. Episode 2 rose to 5.4%. Peak viewership also soared from 5.4% to 6.9%.
