[Dispatch=Myeong-ju Lee] Singer Woo Z's self-written track is enjoying prolonged success on major domestic music charts.
According to Melon's latest tally (as of the 15th), Woo Z has climbed to No. 9 on the "Top 100" with "Drowning," a track from his mini fifth album released in April 2023.
"Drowning" has maintained a Top 10 position on the chart for 70 consecutive weeks. This is a record for the longest chart run to date. It has surpassed NewJeans' "Hype Boy" (49 weeks).
The reverse-trend fever shows no signs of cooling. The song was brought back into the spotlight approximately 1 year and 6 months after its release. A live video featuring Woo Z during his military service went viral.
Afterward, the track remained in the upper echelon of various charts for over a year. Powered by listeners' repeated plays, it claimed the No. 1 spot on Melon, Genie, and Circle Chart's "2025 Annual Charts."
Related videos continue to be played consistently. The "Woo Z Drowning Live Clip" was ranked No. 3 on YouTube Korea's trending music video "Top 100" as of the 14th.
The video that sparked the reverse-trend is also popular. It is a KBS-2TV "Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend" special featuring Armed Forces Day, in which he appeared in military uniform. The video has surpassed 30 million views.
"Drowning" is a song written and composed by Woo Z himself. It is characterized by delicately yet intensely expressing the emotions felt after parting with a loved one.
Meanwhile, Woo Z released his first full-length album "Archive. 1" in March.
