[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo] The film ‘Colony’ (directed by Yeon Sang-ho) has fired the opening signal for a box office hit. Ahead of its release, the movie has climbed to No. 1 in advance ticket sales.
According to the Korean Film Council’s Integrated Computer Network for Movie Tickets, ‘Colony’ recorded a real-time reservation rate exceeding 46.6% as of 1 PM on May 18. The number of advance ticket holders reached 120,443.
The film outpaced several major international competitors. It surpassed titles including ‘Michael’, which has maintained the No. 1 spot since release, as well as ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ and ‘Super Mario Galaxy’.
‘Colony’ is a zombie thriller set inside a massive shopping mall where a large-scale infection outbreak occurs. The story follows survivors trapped inside the building as they battle evolving infected creatures.
The film also received an invitation to the 79th Cannes Film Festival. It was officially selected for the Midnight Screening section, one of the festival’s non-competition categories, and held its world premiere on May 16.
Meanwhile, ‘Colony’ is scheduled to open in Korean theaters on May 21.
