[Dispatch=Reporter Kim So-jung] A robber who broke into the home of Nana (real name Lim Jin-ah), an actress from After School, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Namyang-ju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutor's Office held a final trial for defendant A on the 19th. Kim is charged with robbery and assault. The prosecution requested a 10-year sentence.
The prosecution stated, "The defendant carried a weapon, broke into the victim's home, and caused injury. Considering that the defendant denies the charges, shows no remorse, and caused mental and physical suffering to the victims," they explained their request.
Defendant A's lawyer denied carrying a weapon. "The defendant admits to breaking into a residence with intent to steal. However, there is insufficient objective evidence for the prosecution's claim regarding weapon possession," the defense argued.
Defendant A also stated in a final statement, "I sincerely apologize to the victims who suffered due to my crimes," but added, "I cannot admit to actions I did not take."
Nana and her mother were victims of robbery at their residence in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do on November 15 last year. Defendant A is accused of threatening Nana and her mother with a weapon and demanding money.
Nana and her mother subdued A after a physical struggle. During this process, both Nana and her mother were injured. Medical certificates documenting injuries requiring 33 and 31 days of treatment were submitted respectively. Defendant A also suffered wounds to the jaw and other areas.
While detained in custody, A filed a counter-complaint against Nana on charges including attempted murder. However, police decided not to prosecute, stating the case "constitutes self-defense."
Nana appeared as a witness at trial. "I don't understand why my mother and I had to suffer such humiliation. It seems like an ironic situation," she expressed her anger.
The sentencing hearing for defendant A will be held on the 9th of next month.
