[Dispatch=Myung-ju Lee] Director Park Chan-wook's new film is drawing heated attention at the Cannes Film Festival.
U.S. media outlet Deadline reported on the 20th (Korea time) that "North American rights negotiations for 'The Brigands of Rattlecreek' are underway."
The film is a western directed by Park Chan-wook. Warner Bros. subsidiary Clockwork secured a favorable position in the rights contract. The deal is valued at $150 million (approximately 225.9 billion won).
The media added that "Clockwork edged out multiple competitors to acquire the rights to 'The Brigands of Rattlecreek.' Final negotiations are underway and the deal is at the closing stage."
'The Brigands of Rattlecreek' tells the story of a sheriff and a doctor seeking revenge against a band of bandits who plundered a town under cover of heavy rain. Director Park Chan-wook took on screenplay adaptation and direction.
Hollywood top stars have been cast. Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, and Pedro Pascal star. Tang Wei, who delivered a strong performance in the previous work 'Decision to Leave,' also appears.
Pre-production is underway as a large-scale project. Production costs alone are estimated to exceed $60 million (approximately 90.3 billion won). Filming is scheduled to begin in early next year.
