According to the Korean Film Council's integrated movie ticket sales system, 'Swarm' drew 971,034 viewers at last weekend (May 29-31). The cumulative audience stands at 3.474 million.
It surpassed the break-even point (3 million viewers) in the fastest time among releases this year. On May 30, its tenth day of release, it crossed 3 million viewers and entered the profit zone.
It is expected to maintain its box office momentum for the time being. As of 1 a.m., 'Swarm' maintains the No. 1 advance booking rate at 30.2%. It topped newly released or upcoming films.
'Swarm' is one part of director Yeon Sang-ho's zombie trilogy. It depicts the story of survivors isolated in a building facing off against infected individuals who evolve in unpredictable forms.
Meanwhile, 'Backroom' took second place with 303,264 viewers. 'Michael' drew 136,682 viewers during the same period and dropped to third place.
