[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo Reporter] Actor Hwang Jung-min returns with director Na Hong-jin's new film. This is their second collaboration following "The Wailing."
Hwang Jung-min appeared in the film "Hope" (directed by Na Hong-jin). He played Beom-seok, the head of Hopogang Outpost. The character struggles amid unexpected circumstances.
Hwang realized Beom-seok's complex emotions through densely layered acting. He expressed both the sense of responsibility to protect the village and fear toward an unknown entity simultaneously.
He particularly focused on his entrance scenes. He explained, "I thought Beom-seok's energy had to be accurately conveyed so we could overcome the mountain in 'Hope.'"
The film was invited to the competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, unveiling itself before its release. Although it did not win an award, global media outlets took notice.
Most notably, praise poured in for Hwang Jung-min's performance. Discussing Film wrote, "Hwang Jung-min's fearful expression builds the dramatic tension of the film."
The Hollywood Reporter stated, "Hwang Jung-min, commanding without hesitation yet displaying a fear-stricken appearance, completes Beom-seok attractively."
International Business Times also highly evaluated his acting, saying, "He perfectly harmonized his characteristic approachable charisma with a lighthearted demeanor."
Loud and Clear Review also praised, "Hwang Jung-min makes audiences understand and become immersed in the relentless progression of 'Hope.'"
Meanwhile, "Hope" is set in Hopogang in the Demilitarized Zone. In addition to Hwang Jung-min, Cho Jin-sung, Jongho Yeon, and Michael Fassbender also appear.
