[Dispatch=Reporter Park Hye-jin] Singer PSY (real name Park Jae-sang, 48) has been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of violating the Medical Service Act.
The Seodaemun Police Station referred PSY, professor A from a university hospital who prescribed medicine to PSY, and his manager to prosecutors on suspicion of violating the Medical Service Act on the 29th of last month. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office launched an investigation into PSY on suspicion of violating the Medical Service Act on the 1st.
A representative of his agency 'P Nation' said in a phone call with 'Dispatch' on the 2nd, "The police investigation regarding the violation of the Medical Service Act due to a proxy pickup of sleeping pills has been concluded, and we will actively cooperate with future prosecution investigations."
PSY was diagnosed with chronic sleep disorder and was taking sleeping pills. He is suspected of having his manager proxy-pick up sleeping pills from 2022 to last year.
Under current law, sleeping pills are classified as psychotropic drugs. The principle is that prescription must be made after a doctor's face-to-face examination. According to Article 17-2 of the Medical Service Act, proxy pickup is not permitted even for immediate family members unless there are exceptional reasons such as loss of consciousness or inability to move on the part of the patient.
PSY's side apologized in August last year, saying, "Proxy-picking up prescription sleeping pills is a clear mistake and an oversight," and "We apologize for any inconvenience caused."
