[Dispatch=Yuha Haneul Reporter] Actor Ji Chang-wook's agency has issued a statement regarding controversy over tens of billions of won in tax collection.
His agency Spring Company stated on the 2nd, "We deeply apologize for causing concern to many people due to this matter," while also stating, "There was no intentional omission of income or tax evasion through improper means whatsoever."
The position is that this was not intentional tax evasion. "Regarding whether revenue from the actor's entertainment activities should be attributed to an individual or a corporation under the substance-over-form principle, there was a difference in view between the tax authorities and us," the agency explained.
The agency emphasized that "(Ji Chang-wook) has strictly complied with relevant laws and procedures without any tax-related issues since his debut in 2008," and that "faithful performance of tax obligations has been our top priority principle."
Regarding the National Tax Service investigation results, the agency stated it will accept them. The agency conveyed, "We respect the judgment of the National Tax Service and plan to pay the assessed collection without delay according to relevant procedures."
Finally, it added, "We will more carefully review our tax and accounting management systems, and will continue to comply with the law and principles and faithfully fulfill our tax obligations."
Previously, a media outlet reported that the Seoul Regional Tax Office's Investigation Division 2 conducted an irregular tax investigation on Ji Chang-wook on this day. It is known that Ji Chang-wook was subject to collection of tens of billions of won in taxes.
