[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Ah-jin] Hollywood actor James Handy has passed away. He was 81 years old.
U.S. media outlets including AP reported on the 6th that "James Handy was found stabbed outside a house in the Tarzana area of Los Angeles on the 4th."
Police are known to have responded to a report stating "I just killed someone." Handy was lying unconscious. He was immediately transported to a hospital but died.
The suspect is Michael Gledhill (44), the son of Handy's girlfriend. Near the scene, he confessed to police, saying "I'm the person you're looking for." He was arrested on the spot.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged Gledhill with murder. A preliminary hearing was held on the morning of the 6th. However, Gledhill did not appear in court.
His attorney argued that "the client is in a state where he cannot assist counsel due to mental health issues." Judge John H. Reid ordered the case to be transferred to mental health court for a psychological evaluation.
James Handy was an actor who worked in Hollywood since the 1970s. He became known through his role as a pest control operator in the 1995 film 'Jumanji.'
In 2022's 'Top Gun: Maverick,' he played bartender Jimmy. He was a regular guest on famous crime investigation dramas including 'NCIS: Los Angeles' and 'Cold Case.'
His agency, Ellis Talent Group, expressed deep condolences, stating "There was no more talented and humble actor and friend than James Handy."
