[Dispatch=Reporter Park Hye-jin] Actor Kim Nam-gil created a commemorative video for the 100th anniversary of the June 10 Independence Movement with Professor Seo Kyoung-deok.
Professor Seo Kyoung-deok of Sungshin Women's University announced on June 10 via SNS, "To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the June 10 Independence Movement, I produced a multilingual video titled 'Voices as One, Building Korea—100th Anniversary of the June 10 Independence Movement' with actor Kim Nam-gil."
The video highlights how the June 10 Independence Movement, sparked by the funeral of Emperor Sunjong on June 10, 1926, reignited the independence movement that had been stagnant through national resistance. The video was jointly produced with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. It was released in Korean and English.
Kim Nam-gil provided the Korean narration. He said, "I am pleased to convey the history of the June 10 Independence Movement through my voice" and "I hope many people both at home and abroad will watch it."
Professor Seo explained, "Beyond a simple anti-Japanese protest, it demonstrated values of 'integration and solidarity'" and "it highlighted this as a historic turning point leading to the subsequent Gwangju Student Independence Movement and the founding of the Singan Society."
He added, "I wanted to raise awareness of the June 10 Independence Movement in which people united for independence amid Japan's deceptive cultural governance" and "by recalling the solidarity and communal spirit shown by our ancestors, I wanted to present the true values that our society should inherit."
