Actors Seo In-guk and Park Ji-hyun return this summer with the hottest office romance. They added excitement to the ordinary daily lives of office workers who commute, work overtime, and leave work every day.
The work is based on a webtoon of the same name. It brings the "Strong Fox" phenomenon from the webtoon to living rooms nationwide. It aims to inherit the legacy of tvN's representative romance series such as "Romance is a Bonus Book," "Misaeng," and "Sell Your Haunted House."
tvN's new Monday-Tuesday drama "Come to Work Tomorrow!" (Screenplay by Kim Kyung-min, Directed by Cho Eun-sol) held an online production press conference on the 15th. Actors Seo In-guk, Park Ji-hyun, Kang Mina, Choi Kyung-hoon, and Director Cho Eun-sol attended.
"Come to Work Tomorrow!" is a drama depicting the process of an office worker experiencing monotony in daily life and his superior becoming irreplaceable to each other, rediscovering excitement in work and love.
Director Cho Eun-sol recalled, "I read the script on the way home from work and was so excited. I thought it would be a good drama for office workers or parents who have finished child-rearing to watch with a beer."
She also explained the differences from the original work. "We depicted the process of ordinary workplace colleagues building a relationship in more detail. A solid narrative that strengthens as we progress is our competitiveness," she said with confidence.
Director Cho pointed to empathy as the work's appeal. "Many things happen in a single day. The very fact of enduring that day is a powerful story," she said.
She added, "We added a spoonful of fantastical excitement that Kang Si-woo (played by Seo In-guk) provides to realistic empathy. I hope viewers cry and laugh together and feel catharsis."
Seo In-guk plays Kang Si-woo, head of the DA Business Division at Sae-um Electronics. He is a character who prioritizes principles and efficiency above all. He doesn't smile, keeps people at a distance, and doesn't apologize easily. He's the so-called "3NO Man."
Regarding the character, he explained, "He's someone who plans everything from the moment he opens his eyes in the morning until he falls asleep at night. He's so thorough that I wondered if he even plans his dreams."
Seo In-guk said, "Kang Si-woo is someone who doesn't know the pleasure of chimaek after work. To find hobbies that suit him, I researched settings separately, including tea ceremony and operating various machines," he recalled.
He also revealed his reasons for taking the role. "It's harder to express natural emotions in ordinary daily life than emotions in extreme situations," he said. "The character of Kang Si-woo, who tries to control his desires, stimulated my desire to challenge myself as an actor."
Director Cho praised him highly, saying, "It's a difficult role where you must create excitement with just your eyes, voice, and atmosphere. Now that filming is complete, I wonder what we would have done without actor Seo In-guk. He was Kang Si-woo himself."
Park Ji-hyun plays Cha Ji-yoon, a senior at the DA Business Division. She experiences monotony in daily life due to repetitive company work and endless tasks. Her only daily pleasure is enjoying chimaek after work.
She said, "Anyone who has experienced work and love can relate to this character. I was drawn to the appeal of her passion, which doesn't falter even after experiencing failure and pain, and moves forward."
She also referenced actual office workers' stories. "My sister works as a K office worker. I heard many stories about working life," she said. "The episodes in the script are the kind of things that could actually happen at a real company, so I acted with even more empathy."
Director Cho previewed the romance between the two, saying, "We depict the process of slowly seeping into each other. Their love is mature and adult-like. The way they consider each other even in times of crisis will give viewers great excitement."
The two have already created a couple nickname. Seo In-guk laughed, saying, "We're both foxes, so we're called desert fox and arctic fox. And there's the nickname 'Strong Fox,' right? Please call us the 'Fox Couple.'"
Kang Mina plays Yoon No-ah, an employee in the same business division. Following an unexpected incident, she faces thoughts about the future and love. Choi Kyung-hoon plays Cho Ga-eul, Ji-yoon's college classmate and first love, adding vitality to the drama.
Will it be able to inherit the box office success of the previous work "The Legend of Catering Soldier"? Seo In-guk and Park Ji-hyun made a pledge to appear on Mnet's "M Countdown" if viewership surpasses 10%.
The actors unanimously said, "We hope this becomes a work that supports the tomorrow of everyone who commutes to work. I hope viewers gain the strength to think, 'Still, I have to come to work tomorrow' after watching the drama."
Finally, Seo In-guk said, "I hope this becomes a drama where viewers grow and heal together. After watching the last episode, I would like viewers to feel the desire to love," he said.
"Come to Work Tomorrow!" airs its first episode on the 22nd at 8:50 p.m.
