[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo] Evolving zombies have swept across Asia. 'Collective' (Director Yeon Sang-ho) has entered the upper ranks of the overseas box office.
According to distributor Showbox, 'Collective' opened in major Asian regions last month. Particularly, popularity in Malaysia is soaring. As of the 14th, cumulative viewership exceeded 1.51 million.
This corresponds to the number one Korean film box office of all time. The previous record holder was director Yeon Sang-ho's zombie film 'Train to Busan'. It held the top position for 10 years but has now been surpassed by 'Collective'.
It's not just Malaysia. In Indonesia, within 12 days of its release, it climbed to the all-time number two Korean film box office (1.06 million viewers). In the Philippines, it also reached number two of all time (340,000 viewers).
Theater circuits in Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan have also been infected. It ranked fourth at the Singapore all-time Korean film box office, and fifth each in Thailand and Taiwan, proving its presence.
'Collective' is one part of director Yeon Sang-ho's zombie trilogy. It depicts the story of a sealed-off building due to an infection outbreak, with survivors confronting infected individuals who evolve in unpredictable forms.
Meanwhile, 'Collective' opened on the 11th in Laos, Australia, and New Zealand, and on the 12th in Vietnam.
