[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo] The Grammy Awards has established a new award category in consideration of K-pop's influence.
Variety reported on the 16th (Korean time), "The Grammy Awards announced changes to next year's ceremony. A total of five new award categories will be added."
Next year's ceremony will introduce the "Best Asian Pop Music Performance," "Best Latin Song," and "Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance" categories.
Additionally, "Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance" will be established. The "Best Traditional Folk Album" category trophy will also be awarded.
The notable category is "Best Asian Pop Music Performance." This is an award targeting K-pop, J-pop (Japanese popular music), and C-pop (Chinese popular music).
This reflects the reality that music from the Asian region is gaining popularity worldwide. It will be presented to artists who sing songs in Asian languages.
Forbes noted about these changes, "The status of K-pop at the Grammy Awards has changed," describing it as "a structural change for K-pop artists."
The nomination criteria for "Best New Artist" has also changed. The existing maximum of three nominations has been increased to four. The new song ratio in albums has been lowered from 75% to 66%.
