'Toy Story 5' Takes No. 1 on Opening Weekend…"Will Set Series Record"

[Dispatch=Lee Myung-ju Reporter] The stories of toys spoke again. The film 'Toy Story 5' launched at No. 1 on the weekend box office.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated movie ticket system, 'Toy Story 5' (directed by Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris) drew 90,302 attendees on the 19th.

Real-time advance reservation rate recorded 49.2% as of 9 a.m. on the 20th. 221,713 people made advance reservations nationwide. It showed dominant box office performance.

It is also performing well overseas. U.S. Variety predicted that "'Toy Story 5' will record the series' highest opening performance."

In fact, 'Toy Story 5' achieved the best preview performance among films released this year. It earned $17.5 million (approximately 26.8 billion won) from previews alone.

'Toy Story 5' is an animation dealing with the world of toys. It returned as a sequel approximately 7 years after the fourth installment in 2019.

Technology emerged as a new villain. The story follows toys facing a crisis with the arrival of the smart tablet 'Lily Pad' and coming together again.

Meanwhile, 'Collective' ranked No. 2 with 37,966 attendees, and 'Wild Things' drew 25,209 to rank No. 3.
