[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-joo] Broadcaster Lee Si-an won a legal dispute with her agency.
The Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 31 (Presiding Judge Ha Sang-je) held a ruling hearing on the 12th in the damages lawsuit filed by Leaders Entertainment against Lee Si-an.
The court ruled in Lee Si-an's favor. The plaintiff was found not guilty. The court determined that the supplementary agreement made between Leaders Entertainment and Lee Si-an was invalid.
Leaders Entertainment signed an exclusive contract with Lee Si-an in August 2023. Eight months later, in April 2024, before appearing on Netflix's 'Single's Inferno 4,' they executed a supplementary agreement.
Through the supplementary agreement, the agency pushed back the expiration date of the exclusive contract. It was originally scheduled to end in October 2024, but a clause extending it by one year and six months was included.
Subsequently, 'Single's Inferno 4' aired. Leaders Entertainment filed a lawsuit in December of the same year, claiming that Lee Si-an violated her exclusive contract obligations and expressed her intention to end the contract.
The court determined that the supplementary agreement itself was invalid, finding that fraud occurred. Contrary to what Leaders Entertainment claimed, the presence or absence of agency affiliation was not important for appearing in 'Single's Inferno 4.'
The penalty clause was also not upheld. The court determined that the supplementary agreement between both parties was legally rescinded. Lee Si-an's breach of appearance obligations was not acknowledged.
Meanwhile, Lee Si-an became known through appearances on Mnet's 'Idol School' and 'Produce 48.' She subsequently built global recognition through 'Single's Inferno 4.'
