[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-ju] The camp of South Korean national football team defender Seol Young-woo has announced legal measures against malicious commenters.
'Sportif Project,' Seol Young-woo's agency, posted a notice of prosecution on SNS on the 25th regarding malicious posts, spreading of false information, and defamation.
An official stated, "Constructive criticism and opinions about matches are important elements of a healthy sports culture," and indicated they would accept diverse reactions from fans.
However, they take the position that overstepping expressions cannot be tolerated. They emphasized that "profanity and personal attacks go beyond the scope of sound opinion expression."
They continued, "Such conduct can never be justified," adding that "it is causing mental damage not only to the player himself but also to his family and those around him."
The agency informed that related posts and comments are under continuous monitoring. They warned, "We will respond strongly to illegal acts without leniency."
Seol Young-woo was selected for the South Korean national team for the '2026 FIFA North/Central America World Cup' and played in every match. In the third match, he started as a right wing-back.
South Korea conceded a counterattack by South Africa in the 18th minute of the second half and allowed the opening goal. They subsequently attempted to equalize but lost 0-1 and finished third in the group.
After the match, Seol Young-woo said, "As a defender, if we hadn't conceded a goal, we could have advanced on our own with just a draw," adding "I feel a sense of responsibility."
