Director Josh Safdie attended a video press conference held on the 2nd to commemorate the Korean release of the film "Marty Supreme." He held a Q&A session with domestic reporters. Director Safdie expressed, "I have great respect and affection for Korean cinema. I know the passion Korean audiences have toward film. It is always one of the countries I want to visit," conveying his regret at not being able to visit Korea. "Marty Supreme" is a dynamic work depicting the journey of Marty Mauser (played by Timothée Chalamet), obsessed with a dream that no one respects, going to hell to become the best. Timothée Chalamet won the 83rd Golden Globe Award for this film. He was nominated in 9 categories at the 98th Academy Awards and 11 categories at the 79th British Academy Awards. He won 26 Best Actor awards at film festivals worldwide. It became another signature work of his. Director Safdie answered that the reason for casting Timothée Chalamet was "purity." He said, "I thought that a boy-like appearance with childlike eyes in the way he looks at the world could deliver Marty Mauser gently to audiences." This makes sense, as Marty Mauser is, in a word, an unlikable character. With a face full of ambition toward success, he causes all sorts of trouble wherever he goes. Safdie said, "I think complexity is necessary in the way we live in the world. Marty Mauser is also, in my view, doing wrong things, yet we end up rooting for him." He continued, "That question makes us think, 'There must be something about him I can respect.' I think we can feel something heroic when we see someone boldly doing what we cannot do." Safdie said, "There were many flawed people around me, and when I try to find the good side of the other person, affection toward that person is born. I think that aspect influences the way I write scripts." What was it like working with Timothée Chalamet? He said, "His working method was very specific. We communicated a lot. In fact, when I work, I tend to think of many things at once and am in a state of chaos." "But Chalamet was the opposite. He asked to receive my directing notes organized, so I gave them, but later I just told him to follow my method instead. Ha ha. To that extent, Chalamet had a tenacious and serious side in acting."
