"Hate and insult, it's painful"…Choi Siwon, U.S. court approves identity disclosure request
by. Minji Gu

[Dispatch=Reporter Min-ji Gu] Super Junior's Choi Si-won is accelerating his legal action against malicious commenters. A U.S. court has authorized the disclosure of personal information for 10 malicious commenters, making it possible to identify the posters of hateful comments.

Choi Si-won requested the personal information of malicious commenters in June under 28 U.S.C. §1782 (discovery of evidence to support overseas litigation). The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California cited the discovery of evidence requested by Choi Si-won on the 3rd.

According to a statement confirmed by Dispatch, Choi Si-won stated, "Unable to identify YouTube and X users, I cannot continue with the Korean litigation." He requested user information including names, dates of birth, and addresses from the platforms.

Choi Si-won claimed that 10 anonymous users posted malicious content on X and YouTube from November 11, 2025 to February 23, 2026. He explained, "Aggressive hateful comments and extremely insulting personal attacks continued."

He raised his grievances. "Due to content that seriously insulted me and damaged my reputation, I suffered severe emotional and psychological distress," and "I sustained significant damage to my social and professional reputation as a Super Junior member," he stated.

Choi Si-won has never explicitly stated his political position. However, he claimed that his social media posts led to political interpretations, which became a catalyst for criticism and personal attacks.

He indirectly revealed his political inclination on social media. Last year, he posted a tribute to Charlie Kirk. After former President Yoon Suk Yeol was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first trial, he posted Chinese idioms such as "injustice must fall" and "the foundations collapse."

A nighttime landscape photo he recently released also sparked various interpretations. There was speculation that it was taken in the Olympic Park area where an election denial and rerun rally was held. The post was subsequently deleted.

Choi Si-won collected malicious comments and submitted them to the U.S. court. Examples include "seems like he picked up and used a single idiom," "thinks he can say anything," and "fanatic traitors must be eliminated quickly."

Personal attack expressions were also confirmed. Comments including profanity such as "get out XXX. Choi Si-won out," "Choi Si-won, leave Super Junior," "are you still clinging to the idol title because of money," and "Choi Si-won, put that XX guy in the back" were also present.

In May, Choi Si-won filed a damages lawsuit against 10 malicious commenters for defamation and insult. SM stated, "We are aware of the seriousness of the malicious posts about Choi Si-won. We have filed a criminal complaint regarding unlawful acts."

Meanwhile, the process of identity inquiry against overseas platforms has also been utilized in the K-pop industry. Wonyoung secured the identity of the operator of a "talduk detention center" using U.S. court procedures. The operator was sentenced to two years in prison with a three-year suspended sentence and a fine of 200 million won.
