[Dispatch=Kim Ji-ho] JTBC has completed payment of overdue appearance fees and production costs.
JTBC stated on the 8th, "Dispatch fees and service charges were unpaid due to court approval procedures," and "we received court permission last week and completed payment." It is known that appearance fees for some entertainment programs and external production costs were also paid on this day.
JTBC said, "We had to wait for the court's decision, which inevitably delayed the payment schedule," and "we apologize to the cast members and related companies."
JTBC declared default on the 12th of last month after failing to repay 20.6 billion won worth of securitized borrowing at maturity. Affiliated companies including Joonggang Holdings, Content Joonggang, Joonggang P&I, Megabox Joonggang, and JTBC subsequently filed for commencement of rehabilitation proceedings.
However, unlike the other four affiliated companies, JTBC also applied for an autonomous restructuring support program (ARS). The key is for the company to take the lead in pursuing normalization. On the 30th of last month, the court accepted this.
Meanwhile, the Korean Actors Labor Union (KALU) and the Film and Video Creators Association expressed concerns about the Joonggang Group situation. On the 6th, the KALU side urged, "JTBC should seek measures to prioritize repayment of actors' appearance fees at the level of wages."
On the 8th, the Film and Video Creators Association emphasized that Megabox Joonggang's unpaid settlement funds are "circulating funds linked to production companies, distributors, investors, publicity and marketing companies, post-production companies, technical companies, advertising and event companies, and staff costs," stressing they should be prioritized for repayment.
