'Hope' draws 1.5 million viewers on opening weekend… "200 million breakthrough in 5 days of release"

[Dispatch=Lee Myung-ju Reporter] The film 'Hope' (director Na Hong-jin) surpassed 2 million viewers five days after its release.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated box office system, 'Hope' took first place at the box office last weekend (17-19). It drew a total of 1,504,013 viewers.

The cumulative audience is 2,129,720. The film surpassed 1 million viewers three days after its release (the 17th) and set a record of surpassing 2 million on its fifth day.

The box office surge continues despite mixed reactions to the film. The pre-booking rate for 'Hope' as of 8 a.m. on the 20th is 26.7%. A total of 129,540 people made advance reservations.

'Hope' is a science fiction genre film by Na Hong-jin. It is a mysterious story that begins when the carcass of an unidentified animal is discovered at Hopogang Port, located in the demilitarized zone.

Director Na Hong-jin has created a film unlike any he has made before. It deals with the different 'hope' of humans and aliens, and its open ending has left audiences anticipating a sequel.

Meanwhile, 'Minions & Monsters' came in second place with 308,576 viewers. 'Moana' followed with 173,555 viewers.
