The New York Asian Film Festival is a leading Asian film festival in North America that has been introducing Asian cinema and culture since 2002.
It has curated and presented a diverse range of Asian films, from popular blockbusters to artistically rich independent films and genre films.
The Centerpiece Presentation section is one of the festival's representative programs, selecting invited works that receive the most prominent presentation among the selections.
Director Na Hong-jin met with director Ari Aster, who is regarded as a young master having directed "Hereditary" and "Midsommar," at this festival.
Director Na received the Daniel A. Kraft Excellence in Action Cinema Award, given to filmmakers working at the pinnacle of genre cinema.
The award was established to honor Danielle Kraft, the festival's co-founder and action film enthusiast who passed away in 2013.
It is presented to filmmakers who have developed the art of action cinema to the highest level. Director Na Hong-jin received the honor on his birthday.
He said, "I am celebrating my birthday for the third time, receiving congratulations before departure, during departure, and here as well. Thank you for your congratulations. I am delighted to receive such a substantial and wonderful award."
The 25th New York Asian Film Festival is also conducting a retrospective screening all of Director Na Hong-jin's feature directorial works, including "The Chaser," "The Yellow Sea," and "The Wailing."
Praise from prominent overseas media continues. Accolades are pouring in for Director Na Hong-jin's distinctive direction, meticulous production, and powerful action sequences.
Meanwhile, "Hope" is also driving overwhelming box office success domestically. It achieved eight consecutive days at number one at the box office, surpassing 2.53 million cumulative viewers as of the 23rd.
