[Dispatch=Reporter Kim So-jung] Rapper Essence (real name Kang Minho, 39) received a summary order for a fine on charges of indecent assault. Essence objected to the court's decision and requested a formal trial.

Seoul Southern District Court issued a summary order for a 5 million won fine to Essence in June on charges of indecent assault. However, Essence raised an objection to the summary order and chose to proceed with a court battle.

According to the prosecution's charges, the incident occurred in the early morning of August 3 last year at around 4 a.m. Essence is accused of indecent assault against woman A (30) in the basement of a club located on Itaewon-ro in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

The two met for the first time at the club on the day of the incident. Victim A claimed, "Even though I expressed my refusal, Essence suddenly pressed his body against me from behind."

The prosecution is reported to have secured statements that he committed indecent assault by pushing his face forward to attempt a kiss, biting the neck area, and touching the buttocks with his hand.

Essence denied the charges entirely. According to his account, A recognized him first, and things proceeded naturally. Essence's side explained, "We stayed at the club for approximately one hour with acquaintances. Nothing inappropriate happened."

Yang Jong-chan, an attorney at law firm Cheongshin representing Essence, stated, "The physical contact in question occurred with mutual consent and in a natural atmosphere. There was no coercion, assault, or intimidation."

He continued, "There was no instance of exercising force or attempting improper contact against the other party's will. In the legal proceedings to follow, we will objectively and sincerely clarify the facts to dispel any misunderstandings."

Meanwhile, Essence's first hearing is scheduled for September 2.
