"We support the Grammy boycott"…BTS 'Aliens', another #1

[Dispatch=Lee Myeong-ju] BTS declared a Grammy boycott, and ARMY worldwide showed support indirectly.

According to the latest iTunes count, "Aliens," a track from BTS's fifth studio album, topped the worldwide 'Top Songs' chart for three consecutive days.

An exceptional chart resurgence was recorded four months after the album's release. The song reached No. 1 on the 'Top Songs' chart on the 29th, then held the top spot on charts for the 30th and 31st.

The Grammy boycott is behind the resurgence. The members recently refused to submit, saying "we hope music is loved for itself rather than being divided by region or language."

They expressed opposition to the newly established 'Best Asian Pop Music Performance' category, interpreting it as separation from the main awards rather than a new opportunity.

The boycott had a significant impact. Grammy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. quickly explained, "The intent of the new category is not exclusion, but a dedicated spotlight."

However, after this position was announced, BTS performance videos (2021, 2022) were deleted from the Grammy website, with negative sentiment continuing to spread.

Fans launched streaming projects for "Aliens" on major music charts, adding momentum to this decision. Other songs including "Normal" also charted.

Celebrities also showed support for BTS. Director Maggie Kang of the film "K-pop Demon Hunters" posted news about them on social media and added a clapping effect.

American rapper and "Aliens" producer Mike Will Made-It posted "BTS ALIENS" with an emoji meaning "keep swimming."

Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University said, "Grammy should listen to music critics' feedback and improve opaque judging criteria and discriminatory elements."

Meanwhile, "Aliens" is a song in which BTS compares their identity and aspirations felt while working as Koreans on the global stage to being "outsiders."
