[Dispatch=Yuha reporter] The movie 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' (directed by Destin Cretton, hereinafter 'Spider-Man 4') swept North American theaters with record-breaking box office performance.

According to Box Office Mojo, a film box office tracking site, 'Spider-Man 4' earned $355 million (approximately 510 billion won) from 4,487 North American theaters over four days starting from the 31st of last month.

This marks the second-highest opening box office in North American history. It differs by approximately $2 million from 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019) in first place, which earned $357.1 million.

There remains a possibility the rankings could flip. Sony Pictures estimated the final day (2nd) box office revenue at $84 million. If actual revenues exceed expectations, it could rank first in the final tally.

This is a new installment released approximately five years after 'Spider-Man: No Way Home.' The previous film recorded $260.1 million at its North American opening, ranking second in all-time openings. 'Spider-Man 4' surpassed the previous film's record by approximately $90 million.

Global box office performance is also explosive. 'Spider-Man 4' added $572 million from 66 markets outside North America. The worldwide opening revenue totals $927 million (approximately 1.33 trillion won).

The film continues its box office run domestically as well. It attracted approximately 2.25 million viewers during its opening weekend from the 31st to the 2nd of last month. Cumulative viewership exceeded 3.38 million. It became the first release this year to surpass 2 million viewers in a weekend.

'Spider-Man 4' is the fourth installment in the 'Spider-Man' series. It depicts Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) gaining uncontrollable powers from DNA mutation and facing new threats to protect those dear to him.
