"So, they don't know us"…RM, Rewrites 'Mic Drop'

[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-ju] BTS demonstrated hip-hop spirit. During their North American tour, they indirectly expressed the Grammy boycott situation.

BTS opened the North American leg of their world tour 'ARIRANG' on August 2-3 (Korean time) at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA.

They performed "MIC Drop," a track from their fifth mini album. They delivered a powerful performance on the stage in the center of the venue.

There was a dramatic moment. Member RM altered some of the song's lyrics. RM targeted the Grammy Awards instead of the original lyrics' intended subject of anti-fans.

"People who hate will hate no matter what we do. We'll keep moving forward our way…. We were born in Korea. So they don't know us well."

The original lyrics are also meaningful. BTS continued with the original lyrics after RM's altered section ended. ARMY (the fanbase name) responded with loud cheers.

"Nothing more to see it's our last goodbye/ Nothing to say don't apologize/ Watch out you'll end up like that/ We shoot it straight like collage/ Your cornea will be surprised/ Pretty pretty stylish po po stylish"

BTS recently decided to boycott the Grammys. It's in opposition to the Grammy Awards' establishment of the "Best Asian Pop Music Performance" category.

They expressed their position on SNS on the 29th of last month. "We hope music can be loved for itself rather than being divided by region or language," they said.

ARMY worldwide also expressed their support. They pressured the Grammys through a streaming project of "Aliens," a track from BTS's fifth studio album.

"Aliens" recorded an exceptional resurgence. After hitting number one on the iTunes Worldwide Songs chart on the 29th of last month, it held the top position for four consecutive days.

Meanwhile, BTS is continuing their North American tour. They will visit Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on August 5-6.
