[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo] A special exhibition dedicated to the late An Sung-ki will be held in Busan.
The Busan International Film Festival office announced on the 20th, "The Busan International Film Festival will present a special program titled 'Beautiful Days, An Sung-ki.'"
The program will screen six representative works left by the late actor. In particular, the program will be structured around films that An Sung-ki personally recommended during his lifetime.
The first film is "When The Wind Blows" (1980) directed by Lee Jang-ho. An Sung-ki played Deok-bae, a Chinese restaurant delivery worker, portraying an ordinary portrait of youth.
"Whale Hunting" (1984), directed by Bae Chang-ho, will also be screened. He played Min-woo, a free-spirited soul. He brought a humane character to the screen.
In "Chil-su and Man-su" (1988), he played Man-su, who shouts freely at the world, and in "Gag Man" (1989), he played Jae-jong-se, a third-rate cabaret comedian.
In "White War" (1992), he played novelist Han Ki-ju, who developed PTSD after war, and in "Festival" (1996), he played writer Lee Jun-seop, who returned to his hometown upon receiving news of his mother's death.
Audiences will also have the opportunity to meet with the filmmakers and cast. Directors Lee Jang-ho, Bae Chang-ho, Park Kwang-soo, Lee Myung-se, and Jung Ji-young, as well as actors Kim Bo-yeon, Kim Soo-chul, and Bae Jong-ok will participate.
An Sung-ki made his debut in 1957 with "Twilight Train." He subsequently left behind more than 170 works, including "When The Wind Blows," "Whale Hunting," and "Broken Arrow."
He was also the first actor to achieve ten-million viewership. "Silmido" (2003), which starred the late actor, drew 11.08 million viewers upon its release. It ranks 22nd in box office performance among Korean films of all time.
An Sung-ki was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019. He received a clean bill of health in 2020, but the disease recurred. He passed away on January 5 at the age of 74.
Meanwhile, the Busan International Film Festival will be held around the Busan Cinema Center from October 6-15.
