[Dispatch=Kim So-jung Reporter] Unbreakable. By definition, it means "never breaks" or "cannot be destroyed."
For ALPHA DRIVE ONE (hereafter 'ALPHA DRIVE ONE'), it is a word that holds deeper meaning and significance. It has been a promise they have kept since the team was formed, even in their dorm.
"'Unbreakable' is posted on the wall. It's a meaningful word we've had from the beginning and a pledge. It also represents our desire to rely on each other and move forward, even amid any fears." (Rio)
They put their first promise on the front of the album. They plan to show the exact process of becoming stronger through the trials of youth. They face growing pains head-on and carry the resolve to move forward at their own pace.
ALPHA DRIVE ONE held a showcase for their second mini album 'UNBREAKABLE : 少年BEAST' on the 24th at Blue Square Uri WON Banking Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
ALPHA DRIVE ONE opened the second year since their debut. They expanded their musical spectrum further and added destructive power to the completeness and energy of their performance.
The message of the new album is the growing pains of youth. The boys of ALPHA DRIVE ONE, trapped by others' gazes and prejudices, sing of their desire to overcome confusion and anxiety and be understood as they truly are.
Jun-seo explained, "It wasn't easy for us, who lived different lives, to become a team. We became stronger through clashing with each other, but rather than being complete, we are still growing. We captured growth in real time."
The album contains a total of 7 tracks: "Born Dyer," "Diamond Hour," "One More Time," "Talk to Me," "OMG!," "Good Life," and "Welcome Home."
The title track is "Born Dyer." It's a track that portrays a strong identity. It carries the message that they will not stop but race forward even amid the chaos of control.
It was bolder than the stages shown before. Rough texture and explosive energy stood out. Sang-won said, "Born Dyer has different appeal in its result. I wanted to show a new stage of resolve."
They particularly devoted themselves to the performance. Shin-long emphasized, "We had to maintain our tension without wavering. We paced our breathing and stamina by section to ensure the explosive power of the performance didn't diminish."
They also gained confidence by coordinating together. "Through that process, we gained clear conviction that our team can grow into a group recognized for its performance in the future," he said with pride.
The key choreography depicts a Beast's heart beating roughly. Arno conveyed, "We wanted to show the instinct and energy to keep running even in difficult moments."
This comeback is a regrettable situation for ALPHA DRIVE ONE. Arno suffered an ankle injury while filming content a few days ago. Sang-hyun was diagnosed with vocal cord polyps and is recovering after surgery.
Arno was unable to take the stage that day due to treatment. Given that he also missed some performances during his debut album activities in January due to a fracture, the disappointment was significant.
Jun-seo smiled and said, "We are as disappointed as Arno is. We know how hard he prepared, which makes it more so. We prepared even harder for Arno's part."
Sang-hyun also reassured fans. "You've shown much concern, and the surgery went well and recovery is progressing well. Since this is our second album, we ask for much interest and love."
The B-side track "Welcome Home" involved all members in songwriting. Chinese members Shin-long, An-shin, and Arno actively participated in writing Korean lyrics as well.
Shin-long laughed and said, "I first structured it in Chinese, then wrote in Korean as much as I could. Since the parts are fixed and short, it wasn't that difficult."
An-shin said, "Korean was a bit difficult so I wrote in English. I asked my hyungs about the difficult parts." Arno added, "I turned the things I genuinely wanted to say into lyrics."
This comeback is drawing attention as a competition with established senior artists. BIGBANG, NCT 127, Stray Kids, and ENHYPEN are preparing. For rookie ALPHA DRIVE ONE, it is an honor rather than a burden.
They set their sights high. "Our comeback period overlaps with senior artists we respect, and if we could rank first even once among them, there would be nothing more honorable," they expressed their ambitions.
ALPHA DRIVE ONE is solidifying their global presence through world fan concerts and LA KCON. Sang-won expressed his hope, "If the opportunity comes, we would like to perform our music on stages like Lollapalooza or Coachella."
Meanwhile, ALPHA DRIVE ONE's second mini album 'UNBREAKABLE : 少年BEAST' will be released at 6 p.m. on the 24th.
