'Odyssey,' draws 8.86 million viewers…"Top foreign film box office hit of the year"

[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo] The film "Odyssey" (directed by Christopher Nolan) has emerged as this year's highest-grossing foreign film.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated cinema ticket system, "Odyssey" drew 1,058,643 viewers over the past weekend (August 28-30). The cumulative audience count stands at 8,864,951.

It surpassed "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" (directed by Destin Cretton, hereinafter "Spider-Man 4"), which opened a week earlier. As of this date, it had been viewed by 8,548,405 people.

The film is on the verge of surpassing 10 million viewers. "Odyssey" is maintaining its box office momentum despite competition from upcoming new releases. As of August 31, it recorded a pre-booking rate of 65.0%.

"Odyssey" tells the story of Odysseus (played by Matt Damon), the hero who led Troy to victory, overcoming the trials of an inescapable fate and returning home.

Matt Damon plays Odysseus, king of Ithaca in the Ionian Sea of Greece. Anne Hathaway plays his wife Penelope, and Tom Holland plays his son Telemachus.

Meanwhile, "Gyeongju Journey" took third place at the weekend box office behind "Odyssey" and "Spider-Man 4." It drew 124,963 viewers during this period.
