[Dispatch=Yuha Reporter] Rapper Essence (real name Kang Minho, 39) fully denied charges of forced harassment at his first trial.

The Criminal Division 12 of Seoul Southern District Court held the first hearing on charges of forced harassment against Essence on the 2nd. Essence appeared in court with his attorney.

The prosecution stated the charge: "Essence touched the body of a woman identified as A at a club in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul in August of last year, despite her expressed refusal."

Essence's side fully denied the allegations. There was no bodily contact against the victim's will, they argued. His attorney submitted statements from eyewitnesses at the scene as evidence.

The court decided to call and question a key witness who was at the scene. The decision on whether to call the remaining witnesses will be made after observing the progress of future proceedings.

Seoul Southern District Court issued a summary order of a 5 million won fine against Essence in June. Essence objected and requested a formal trial.

Essence posted a lengthy message on SNS in July. "The physical contact took place with mutual consent and in a natural atmosphere. There was no coercion, assault, or intimidation whatsoever," he emphasized.

He continued, "Four months after the incident, I was suddenly asked to apologize by (A). I could not apologize for something that did not happen," and added, "I will reveal the objective truth at trial."

The next hearing is scheduled for November 16.
