[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-ju] Director Lee Chang-dong has returned with the film "Potential Love." It is his new work eight years after "Burning."

"Potential Love" had its world premiere on the 6th (Korean time) at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival held on the Lido Island in Venice, Italy.

The film tells a story of a laid-off worker and his wife meeting with a documentary director and her husband to make a documentary, where they confront hidden desires.

Immediately after the festival screening, enthusiastic reactions poured in. Audiences cheered as the ending credits rolled. It is known that a standing ovation lasted for seven minutes.

American publication "Variety" reported, "The applause could have continued longer, but the director and actors left Palazzo del Cinema following guidance from the festival organizers."

It added, "Since the film's theme is 'thou shalt not covet' from the Ten Commandments, the production team may have been sufficiently satisfied with just this audience reaction."

Praise from foreign media outlets also followed. "Vulture" highly praised it, saying "Director Lee Chang-dong has created one of the most powerful and captivating works of his career."

"The Hollywood Reporter" also stated, "In a meticulously constructed narrative, the director displays humanistic observation and sharp insight."

British publication "The Guardian" gave it 4 out of 5 stars. It reviewed the film as "a work notable for its delicately calibrated direction, beautiful performances, and novelistic texture."

"IndieWire" gave it the highest grade of A. Particularly regarding the performance of Jeon Do-yeon, it wrote, "She delivered a masterful performance that comes around perhaps once every hundred years."

Meanwhile, "Potential Love" advanced to the competition section of the Venice Film Festival. The awards, including the Golden Lion, will be confirmed at the awards ceremony on the 12th.
