[Dispatch=Reporter Lee A Jin] Yuk Mo, the mother of singer Jang Yun Jung (70), was sentenced to prison time on fraud charges.

The Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 2 (presiding judge Seo Beom Jun) held a sentencing trial on the 10th for Yuk Mo, who was indicted on fraud charges. Yuk Mo was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

The court stated, "Considering the method and results of the crime, the nature of the offense is poor and the responsibility is not light," and "Damage has not been recovered, and the possibility of recovery in the near term appears low."

The court also noted that Yuk Mo was sentenced to three years in prison in 2018 for failing to repay approximately 400 million won borrowed from an acquaintance. The court viewed as unfavorable the fact that she recently received a summary order for fraud.

However, the court added, "Yuk Mo admits to the crime and is showing remorse," and "We also considered that her poor health makes economic activity difficult."

Yuk Mo is accused of receiving a total of 31 million won from an acquaintance between September 2024 and August of last year. She received money on three occasions under the pretext of investment.

She invoked her relationship with her famous singer daughter Jang Yun Jung. It was investigated that she deceived the victim by saying that celebrities were also investing and earning substantial profits.

The prosecution sought 1 year and 6 months in prison for Yuk Mo at the final trial on the 27th of last month. At the time, Yuk Mo's side appealed for leniency, stating that "the money obtained was used for living expenses and credit card payments."
