[Dispatch=Reporter Tae Yun Jung] Director Lee Chang-dong's new film "A Possible Love" received the Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival.

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival held its closing ceremony on the 13th at the Sala Grande theater on the Lido Island in Venice, Italy. "A Possible Love" was called for the Jury Prize.

Director Lee Chang-dong said, "This film came about through the waiting of many people. I want to express my gratitude to writer Oh Jung-mi for reviving this story that had to be shelved and creating it anew."

He also gave credit to the staff and actors. "I am grateful to the actors and staff who gave everything on set," he said, adding "I am grateful to Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Cho In-sung, and Cho Yeo-jung, who gave life to the film. This award belongs to all of you."

Finally, he emphasized, "In an era where labor is disappearing and relationships between people are breaking apart, I made this film to ask what cinema should do. I take this award to mean that we should continue asking that question."

"A Possible Love" had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on the 6th and received a seven-minute standing ovation. It was also praised by foreign media.

The previous day (the 12th), it won the International Film Critics' Award. The International Federation of Film Critics evaluated the film as "depicting subtle power dynamics with perfect pacing and on multiple layers."

It has been 24 years since Director Lee Chang-dong won an award at the Venice Film Festival, following "Oasis" in 2002. At that time, he received the Best Director Award, Best New Actress (Moon So-ri), and the International Film Critics' Award.

"A Possible Love" tells the story that unfolds as Suk (Sul Kyung-gu), a laid-off worker, and his wife Mi-ok (Jeon Do-yeon), a documentary director Yeji (Cho Yeo-jung) who captures them, and her husband Sang-woo (Cho In-sung) become entangled.

Meanwhile, the top prize, the Golden Lion Award, went to "Woman Unknown" directed by Mai El-Touki. The Best Actress Award went to Mathilde Arcel from "Woman Unknown," and the Best Actor Award went to John Malkovich from "Wild Horses Nine."
