[Dispatch=Lee Myung-ju Reporter] Director Park Hoon-jung has tasted the joy of winning an award once again. His new film "Sad Tropics" has been selected as an award-winning work at a French film festival.

Overseas distributor 'Finecut' announced on the 16th that "'Sad Tropics' received the Nouveau Genre Grand Prix in the international competition section of the 32nd Étrange Festival."

This is not the first time the film has won at an overseas film festival. "Sad Tropics" previously won the Silver Raven Award in the international competition section of the 44th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.

The film also received invitations from multiple film festivals. It was invited to the 58th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and the 40th Fantasy Filmfest, among others, meeting global audiences.

The Étrange Festival is France's representative genre film festival. It is held in Paris every September. It has previously invited films such as "Pamyo" and "Concrete Utopia."

The Nouveau Genre Grand Prix is the highest award in the international competition section of the festival. It was selected as the most outstanding work after fierce competition.

In particular, the film's genre appeal was highly praised. Marc Torunian, international programmer, said "Director Park Hoon-jung has returned to action and done it right."

Regarding "Sad Tropics," he said "an action thriller that intensifies like an opera," adding that it "races forward relentlessly toward an angry climax."

He further noted, "Stylized action and raw sensibility collide fiercely with deep melancholy, evoking the golden age of Hong Kong cinema from the 1980s and 90s."

Meanwhile, "Sad Tropics" tells the story of a killer organization's children raised by a master vowing blood revenge. The film is currently in final post-production.
